Community Involvement: Dr. Maxym collaborates with Dr. Anna-Lena Lueker to direct the Global Health Curriculum for the Pediatric Residency Program, including the senior elective at LBJ Tropical Medical Center in American Samoa. She also collaborates with faculty from other departments to enhance Global Health education for medical students and residents. Dr. Maxym and Dr. Lueker also co-direct Peds ECHO Hawaiʻi, a free online tele-education project for community pediatricians and allied health providers that focuses on topics relevant to pediatric healthcare in Hawaii and throughout the Pacific. In addition, Dr. Maxym co-leads the Department of Pediatrics Lōkahi Committee with Dr. Marissa Fakaosita and joins her in representing the Dept of Pediatrics on the JABSOM C-CODE committee. Dr. Maxym has served as a medical student and resident advisor and has presented various lectures and small group teaching sessions to JABSOM medical students during the clinical and pre-clinical years. She is a 2024 graduate of the Academic Pediatric Association Health Policy Scholars Program and also completed the Hawaii Pacific Health BRIC Program in 2022. In addition, she co-chairs the Advocacy Committee of the Hawai'i Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
