Community Involvement: Dr. Mizuo is the Department of Pediatrics Medical Clerkship Director and continues to ensure that the third year students receive a comprehensive pediatrics experience. He sits on the Department of Pediatrics medical student curriculum committee and JABSOM’s Clerkship Education Committee (CEC). He has served as a Problem- Based Learning (PBL) co-tutor and a faculty advisor for the medical school’s Pediatric Interest Group. Dr. Mizuo serves on the Department of Pediatrics simulation task force committee, helping to coordinate the 3rd year medical student simulation experience while on pediatrics, and continues to provide 4th year medical students simulation experience in performing lumbar punctures. He is also a Pediatric Interest Group (PIG) faculty advisor at JABSOM. Along with Dr. Kyra Len, he helped develop a MOC Part 4 project to help enhance the teaching skills of pediatric preceptors, as well as award them MOC Part 4 credit for their participation in the project. Dr. Mizuo served as an interviewer for JABSOM for several years and sits on the KMCWC Physician Recruitment Committee. He completed the hospital’s Training in Healthcare Improvement (THI) training course this past year which provides further education on quality improvement and facilitated completion of a project focused on better usage of procalcitonin to help limit unnecessary antibiotic administration in pediatric pneumonia patients.
